Aprilia SRV 850 revealed

Aprilia has confirmed that it’ll be unveiling the new SRV 850 maxi scooter at next month’s EICMA motorcycle show, which takes place in Milan.

Based on the GP800 from sister firm Gilera, the SRV 850 is powered by a 90-degree V-twin engine with four valves per cylinder.

However, perhaps in recognition of its sporty heritage, the Aprilia’s slightly larger capacity means it can boast 74.9 bhp (55.9 kW / 76.0 PS) and 76.5 Nm (56.4 lb/ft) of torque, compared to the GP800’s 73.8 bhp (55.1 kW / 75.0 PS) and 73.0 Nm (53.8 lb/ft). Seemingly inconsequential differences, but maybe it was important to someone that the SRV 850 should have higher outputs to maintain brand hierarchy?

The styling of the SRV 850 is certainly a big improvement on the rather bland appearance of the Gilera, and a new fairing, side panels and graphics result in a look that’s unmistakably Aprilia.

Whether that’s enough to attract buyers remains to be seen, though. Aprilia will undoubtedly be hoping that the SRV 850 is more successful than the slow-selling GP800, which isn’t even offered in the UK.

Aprilia SR Max scooters

Aprilia has launched a pair of new SR Max scooters, which it says have styling inspired by its RSV4 superbike.

The SR Max 125 comes with a fuel-injected, four-stroke 124 cc engine that produces 14 bhp (11 kW / 15 PS) and 12 Nm (8 lb/ft) of torque.

For those wanting slightly more performance, there’s the SR Max 300. It’s powered by a 278 cc single-cylinder engine with outputs of 21 bhp (16 kW / 22 PS) and 23 Nm (16 lb/ft).

Both have large diameter wheels - 15” at the front, 14” at the rear - and 35 mm hydraulic front forks. Braking is taken care of by a 260 mm disc brake with two-piston caliper up front, while at the back there’s a 240 mm disc brake.

Other features include a large under-seat storage compartment, and heater vents that direct air from the radiator onto the rider’s legs. Seat height is 815 mm.

Available in Nero Aprilia (which is actually a black and red colour scheme) or Bianco Glam, UK on the road prices have been set at £3,599 for the SR Max 125 and £3,899 for the SR Max 300.

Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200

Aprilia has released the first image of its new Dorsoduro 1200 supermoto.

Power will come courtesy of an all-new 90 degree V-twin, which is said to have 128 bhp (95 kW / 130 PS) and 115 Nm of torque. It features ‘Ride By Wire’, which gives the rider a choice of three engine management maps - Sport, Touring and Rain.

The Dorsoduro 1200 will be available with ATC (Aprilia Traction Control) and two-channel ABS, both of which can be individually deactivated.

There’s no word on pricing yet but, to help whet the appetite, Aprilia has also produced a short launch video.
